  • MERV: Developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, MERV stands for “minimum efficiency reporting value.” Top-rated filters typically have a MERV rating higher than 10. The higher the MERV rating, the finer the filtration.
  • HEPA: This acronym refers to “high efficiency particulate air” filters. These are pleated mechanical filters that trap up to 99.97% of very fine dust, pollen, smoke, dander and other airborne contaminants.
  • MPR: 3M uses this “microparticle performance rating” to designate a filter’s ability to capture airborne particles smaller than one micron. Look for a MPR 1300-1900 for the most effective filtration.

Just a standard maintenance evaluation on my HVAC system but my tech was on time, polite, thorough and knowledgeable. He advised me on parts I can replace myself to buy a little more time with my current older unit rather than trying to upsell me. He advised that I will likely need a new unit in the next couple of years, but again did so without any pressure to address prematurely. Overall it was great exchange and established a sense of honest trade work. This will not be forgotten when it is time to buy a new system!

When your air conditioner goes out, and it's July...the hottest month of the year...it's an emergency! So I took the first appointment I could get with a company that used a bait and switch technique of leading me to believe they could come soon- only to later confess they would have to come later. I kept calling around and got someone at Parrish Services. They were honest about what they could and could not do. They sent out true professionals who diagnosed the problem within 10 minutes...fixed it, and spoke honestly about what they were doing and what to look out for in the future! I have had a service contract with Parrish Services for many years. Everyone now and again I get pleasantly surprised with service for an issue that is most unpleasant.I had my semi-annual service check done 2 weeks ago. Over the past 2 days it's been warm in the house. I called Parrish to come back to look at the A/C system again. In a matter of 2 hours they were able to schedule next-day service, and the tech re-arranged his calls for service so that he spent less time driving. That meant I was next on his schedule based on location of service calls.The tech ended up locating a major coolant leak. We opted for the lesser of two expenses by having the coil replaced (a quarter of the price of a brand new unit; still not cheap, but better than replacing the entire unit).I am thankful for Parrish Services' scheduling diligence and courteous service. They bent over backwards to schedule a next-day appointment during a stretch of the year when they have an overabundance of A/C service calls.
