Experience
Parrish Services has been incorporated since 1996, and in 2008 we acquired the assets of an HVAC and plumbing company that had been serving customers in the region since 1936. Our visionary President and Chief Executive Officer installed his first geothermal system in 1980. It has been only with the recent availability of significant tax credits has there been a strong demand for geothermal systems, but Parrish has responded. We install, on average, one geothermal system per week. Our specialized geothermal crew has over a century of combined experience, and Parrish has installed tens of thousands of residential replacement heating and air conditioning units while serving the homeowners of Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia.
We have developed a reputation for being the go-to contractor when a geothermal customer has had trouble. If you would like to see a copy of the real report we submitted to one customer who had the misfortune of choosing an inexperienced geothermal contractor, click here.
Skills and certifications
As in many industries, the HVAC industry has undergone technological advances at a rapid pace. There are new standards, new techniques, and new technologies that require sophisticated training and specialized tools. At Parrish Services, we ensure our technicians have advanced training and extensive experience.
Over 90% of our technicians carry NATE certification. NATE certification requires regular recertification, so technicians remain current in their field. We have geothermal-specific certification from IGSHPA in the areas of design, installation, fusion, and service. In related areas, we are accredited GreenPlumbers® and home energy raters. Additionally, we carry training certifications from manufacturers of heating and cooling products, industry related software, and related equipment (e.g., ground penetrating radar systems, horizontal drilling equipment, and load calculation software).
In addition to acquiring specific training and certifications, we are active participants in our trade associations. Our owner has been President for both the State of Virginia and the Northern Virginia chapter of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors Association. Our company and our employees are active members of the Air Conditioning Contractors Association®. We are International Ground Source Heat Pump Association members as well as International Code Council members.
Manufacturer relationships
At Parrish Services, we work to understand your needs and make recommendations most appropriate for you and your home. Sometimes, one manufacturer offers products that are more appropriate for your situation. Therefore, we do not limit ourselves to any particular brand of equipment. If you have a product preference, please mention it to your comfort consultant. Otherwise, we will base our recommendations on your comfort needs, your home’s features, and your budget.
Awards
Our more prestigious awards include the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association Mechanical Contractor of the Year for both 2004 and 2009. In both years we were voted by our peers as the best mechanical contractor in Virginia, as well as being voted the National Runner-Up. We were also awarded the Quality Home Comfort Award for excellence in retrofitting by Contracting Business. And while we pride ourselves on our technical expertise, we take care of our customers, too. We service thousands of customers every year, we are members of various local Chambers of Commerce, and we maintain an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
Licensing, Insurance, bonding, and permits
Parrish Services is a full mechanical contractor licensed with state and local agencies in Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia to perform heating, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, and gas services. We carry appropriate business insurance, workmen’s compensation insurance, and bonds to protect you and our employees. We further ensure your safety and adherence to local laws by obtaining appropriate permits for all jobs. Additionally, if we choose to work with subcontractors for your particular project, we will ensure those contractors have the appropriate licensing and insurance to perform the work required.
Warranty service
Your equipment will come with a manufacturer’s warranty that varies by company and product. In addition to that product warranty, Parrish offers a one year labor warranty. Currently all manufacturers offer at least a 5 year parts warranty on the compressor. Some manufacturers offer both parts and labor warranties. For the loop material, there is a fifty year parts warranty against manufacturer defects. Your comfort advisor will be happy to answer any warranty questions you may have.
While any company can promise to warranty their work, they need to be financially viable in order to keep that promise. Parrish Services is a well-established, well-managed company with significant assets, adequate business insurance, warranty reserve accounts, and major lines of credit. Rest assured we can keep our promise of, “Always there for you!”
Competitive pricing
We understand purchasing a geothermal system is a significant investment, and price is an important consideration. There are many variables to be considered when designing a system. And while the equipment choices are important, the quality of the installation is even more so. Therefore, it is difficult to compare one geothermal quote to another.
At Parrish Services, we assure you our recommendations will create value for you and be competitively priced. As a large company, we have considerable buying power and receive discounts from manufacturers and distributors. We have invested in tools, training, and equipment (e.g., specialized drilling rigs) that allow us to either perform tasks ourselves or subcontract them depending upon which approach is more cost-effective. In addition, we take advantage of opportunities such as tax-free days or neighborhood group buys to lower our costs. We pass these savings on to our customers while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Community partners
We are strong community partners, and we plan to serve you and our community for many years to come. For example, on service calls we collect food throughout the year for local food banks. We have sponsored local youth sports teams, and we have donated staff and equipment such as misting tents and snow cone machines for local fund raising efforts.
We have an ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity® in which we donate energy efficient systems that save homeowners money throughout the system life. In addition, we have donated systems and labor throughout Virginia and Maryland with Project Mend A House, Rebuilding Together, and The House.
Lastly, when customers replace equipment and their old equipment is still usable, or if they have unneeded fuel, we accept those as donations and distribute them to needy families in the area. Not only do we help families save on system cost and energy, but we often help save them from hazardous conditions resulting from unsafe equipment. If during your geothermal project you would like to donate your used conventional equipment, be sure to advise your comfort specialist.

One last note on Geothermal vs. Geoexchange:
Geothermal energy has been used to heat and air condition buildings for several decades. During that time, geothermal systems have been called many different things. Some of the more popular names include the terms geothermal, geoexchange, ground-water, ground source, ground-water assisted, ground-water-source, and water-to water. However, all of these names refer to the same technology, and we at Parrish use simply the term "geothermal."
